OAXACA

Oaxaca is a city and state in south central Mexico. The city is a bastion of indigenous cultures. It is home to the country’s most vibrant arts and crafts scene, some outstandingly colorful and extroverted festivities, a uniquely savory cuisine, and diverse natural riches. It is also the second poorest state in Mexico and it’s comprised mostly of indigenous people. Many communities have maintained their own dialect, traditions, and culture. The city has a population of 260,000 while the state is much larger with 4 million citizens.

The first time I travelled to Oaxaca, Mexico was in 2012 and I have returned every year since.
